Designing a website involves much more than just having a nice looking site on the surface. Some things to consider are:
Coding the site to modern standards to suit all browsers
Using colours that match the intended audience (for example did you know red/yellow makes you hungry? Who uses these colours?)
Ease of use.... i.e. navigation and surfing around the site
How Google and other search engines see and rate your site
Integration of Web 2.0 modules and functionality
User interactivity and "stickability"
Accessability and privacy, plus security of data
Budget available for initial development
Budget set for ongoing updates
We develop websites using these plus other considerations, and can offer a solution for every budget.
Trust me, after 9 years in the industry we have tried most of the content management systems, website builders and coding styles out there, and we have narrowed down the best and stick with these.
In today's website scene, you need to regularly update your website content, and you can't go past a Content Management System for doing this. As the name suggests it is really easy as typing a word document to update and manage your website. There are 2 outstanding products on the market. Joomla 1.5 CMS is our choice of CMS for larger deployments because of it's unlimited flexibility and great support, plus we have been using it for over 4 years so we know it back to front. Wordpress is an outstanding platform, originaly made for blogging style websites, it is gaining market share and becoming much more flexible in design and the ability to add more functions. Also with a little bit of code "tweaking" it can be made to look like a static HTML site, but still be updated with a few mouse clicks. For a simple site of 6 pages or less, we recommend a site based on Wordpress CMS, with the layout set by XHTML/CSS (cascading style sheets). Wordpress in renowned for ease of use, security and Google LOVES it!
If you require E-commerce take our advice and go with a combination of Joomla CMS intergrated with Virtuemart shopping cart. This is the best solution bar none, unless you want to pay $20,000 for a custom developed platform coded by hand. Which of course we can do as well!
No matter what you decide, we follow the standards of great web design set out by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This means your site will be "right" and not have display or other errors commonly seen on other sites.
